Sharp at the Movies: The Watchmen in London

Who watches The Watchmen? Apparently, thousands of Britons gathered on banks of London’s River Thames. To celebrate the opening of the heavily-anticipated movie, a giant image – 72 by 100 feet, to be exact – rose directly from the river, settling on a screen of fine mist between the London Eye and the Shell Building. The event unveiled never-before seen deleted footage from the hotly anticipated movie, a treat for both Watchmen die-hards and casual moviegoers alike.

The grandiose event sharply contrasted the populist spirit of the comic series, whose heroes mainly consist of common-man vigilantes. Fittingly, the only Watchman to possesses superhuman powers – the blue-skinned Dr. Manhattan – was chosen as the star of the show. And the results were extraordinary: with Manhattan’s enormous, surreal likeness emerging from the murky depths of the River Thames, the spectacle made Bruce Wayne’s bat-signal look like a Powerpoint presentation.
