Mario’s favourite shot

In photographer Mario Miotti’s own words;

“I knew that when I went about shooting this editorial for Sharp magazine, I had to bring two very important elements through in the photography; the humbleness of being a real man, and the idea of cool. Communicating those points not in a flashy, overstated way, but in a deeper, more relaxed representation of personal strength, assurance and being ‘well inside one’s skin’. We should all walk down the street like we own it, without arrogance or timidity betraying whether we actually do or do not. Grace and confidence. Being real, being cool. Being sharp.

I picked the image below because it is the image of a man that is strong but not overbearing, accommodating but not a pushover, casual but not underdressed. In using the contrast of tones on the backgrounds, and the depth of shadows with the directional light, I felt I was creating a series of images that include these qualities and communicated a balance of personal power and style. Pretty cool aspiration right? Sure is for me. “
