New gear: Panasonic Toughbook F8

by Alex on September 30th, 2008

ToughbookThe MacBook Air made more sense on a big screen behind Steve Jobs at the Mac fair than it did in reality. Just because the laptop is lighter than air and thinner than a runway model doesn’t mean that it’s going to be right for us. It’s our view that laptops shouldn’t rely on other computers to get the job done. We actually like watching dvds on our laptops sometimes, thank you very much.

The new Panasonic Toughbook caters to many, if not all of our laptop needs. Most notably, if you drop it, it will live. The Toughbook has an extra-durable, magnesium alloy case and an integrated handle which is perfect for any rugged executive who spends time on-the-go. Here are some other appealing specs to keep in mind: great 6 hour battery life, DVD Multi drive, 4GB of RAM, 3G global mobile internet, spill-resistant keyboard. It can even weather more than 220 pounds of pressure. If laptops could get into a cagefight we’d put our money on the Toughbook.

Richard Haines’ fashion blog: from the street to the pencil

by Alex on September 29th, 2008

What I saw todayOver the past couple years the Sartorialist has proven that high fashion can and does exist beyond the runway; that it’s all around us, although it helps to live in Paris, New York, Milan or London, since those cities practically sweat style and hot people. But maybe you’re sick of seeing ridiculously good looking people milling about fashion shows in excessively beautiful European capitals, so why not check out some lovely drawings instead.

Richard Haines (a.k.a. Designerman) has taken a page from the Sartorialist and started illustrating all noteworthy fashion he sees around him on his blog What I Saw Today. Haines has worked alongside a number of top designers like Calvin Klein and Perry Ellis, and their influence has clearly rubbed off on him. We like Haines’ blog because it reminds us that fashion starts as a drawing on a page before making it to the street.

Harry Rosen, better than ever

by Alex on September 26th, 2008

Harry RosenFor those of you in Toronto, you probably know the weekend forecast doesn’t look good. Why not take advantage of the bad weather and check out the newly renovated Harry Rosen store at Bay and Bloor. The new and improved menswear emporium has expanded 20,000 square feet and added two floors to the original store, making it the largest men’s clothing store in the country.

Still dedicated to bringing you the finest clothing from top designers like Tom Ford, Dolce and Gabbana, Ermenegildo Zegna, the new Harry Rosen store also offers its shoppers a plethora of amenities which includes tailors, and private selling rooms. All perfect for the modern gentleman. And don’t forget to check out the fragrance and skin care area. They even made sure to expand the leather and shoe department. Just think of this store as your very own Clark Kent phone booth, except instead of turning into Superman, you’ll come out looking like a million bucks, which isn’t really all that different now that we think about it.
