Sharp Events: Ducati’s Montreal Boutique

by Mark on February 27th, 2009

Sure, Ducati already have a servicing location in Laval, QC. But, with the recent opening their self-described “moto-boutique” in Montreal’s Mile-End / Little Italy area, they’re set to expand their presence quite a bit more in 2009. The focus on the new showroom is lifestyle branding – along with the drool-inducing motorcycles we’ve come to expect from them, they’re also offering other Ducati products, like jeans, jackets, and accessories. The biggest news for Ducati enthusiasts, however, is that we’ll now be able to preview their newest models first-hand.

Aiming to bring Italian racing finesse to Canadian shores, the boutique in Montreal is the first of its kind in the Great White North. The new store opened on February 23rd, here are some images from Ducati’s opening gala.

Sharp Style: Obama’s Timepiece

by Mark on February 26th, 2009

obamawatch.jpgIs it really that much of a surprise that one of the most powerful men in the Western world is also one of the most sharply dressed? Unlike some presidents of recent past, Obama has always demonstrated a meticulous eye for style – whether immersed in a cavalcade of security vehicles or whipping the masses into a gleeful frenzy from the podium. As we’ve noted in the past, a fitting timepiece is the cornerstone of a man’s style, and the President is no exception.

Obama’s watch was destined to become perhaps one of the most iconic timepieces of all time, and not surprisingly, his favourite watch, the Jorg Gray 6500 Chronograph, has become highly in-demand. A commemorative edition has just been released to the public featuring a subdued star and etched with ‘time for change’ on the case back, complemented by a sleek leather crocodile-embossed bracelet.

So forget the Obama hot sauces and screen-printed t-shirts; if you’re looking for a real beacon of class, try his watch. For more Obama style, make sure to check out the next print issue of Sharp, coming very soon.

Sharp Books: Brain Injury

by Mark on February 25th, 2009

brain-injury.jpg In Sharp’s September issue, we published an article detailing the effects of brain damage on an otherwise normal life. While the article’s author points to the symptoms of  brain damage as the source of some of his bad decisions in life, he only covered the tip of the iceberg when it comes to brain injury.

Recently, Alan J. Cooper has also published an incredibly informative book on the subject called Brain Injury, exploring the impact of brain injury beyond the personal effects. Cooper examines the impact of brain damage on your social surroundings – including family life, relationships, and work environment. Written in an almost diary-like format, Cooper brings readers through the struggles of recovery after being involved in a very serious car accident.

While it’s by no means a leisurely read, this book is an invaluable resource for anyone effected by this all-too-common condition. Cooper’s book is the first of its kind and an insightful resource on this little-understood epidemic.

Brain Damage, $34.95. For more information, visit www.whiteknightbooks.ca.
