Sharp Books: 101 Things Every Man Should Know How to Do

101things.jpgWe’re all aware of the trials and tribulations of coming of age. Every man, at some point, should learn how to properly tie a Windsor knot, drive a manual transmission car, and grill a steak. Dads, driving schools, and the food network take care of most of these, but what of the skills that can’t be learned from formal training?   That’s where 101 Things Every Man Should Know How to Do comes in.

A sardonic examination at some of the serious and not-so-serious elements of masculinity, there are some incredibly helpful tips in this self-described ‘manthology.’ Written as a team effort of 28 different authors, the guide covers man-centric know-how ranging from the practical (how to be a great dad, how to ask her to marry you), to the ludicrous (how to fight a bear, how to escape and alien abduction), to the downright hilarious (how to interact with crackheads, how to get away with never washing your clothes). And each topic, no matter how ridiculous, is tackled with surprising grace and aplomb.

Though mostly written in a breezy, humorous tone, there are many nuggets of wisdom here. Filled with short, high readable blurbs, 101 Things is a great handbook to keep around in moments of crisis or simply for entertainment. Being a man isn’t always easy, but this guide can help you through some of life’s stickier situations (it won’t, however, help you through a zombie apocalypse – but that’s why we have Max Brooks).
