For those who wished for one of the best bands from the past decade to stay on a little longer, LCD Soundsystem is set to release a film of their farewell concert entitled Shut Up and Play the Hits. The film documents the New York band (specifically frontman James Murphy) leading up to and following their phenomenal finale that took place at Madison Square Garden last April. The trailer alludes to wonderful cinematography and an emotional portrait of Murphy, while hearing the familiarly nasal voice of famed writer Chuck Klosterman is an additional selling point. Shut Up and Play the Hits could wind up being this generation’s version of The Last Waltz, the Martin Scorcese documentary of The Band’s climax and epilogue. Either way, this one’s a must for anyone who can appreciate innovative music.
