It seems like ages since we last saw Dan Aykroyd purging poltergeists and robbing squad cars. Did you happen to catch him as an FDNY Captain in “I Now Pronounce you Chuck & Larry?” Or how about that turn as a psychotic suburbanite in “Christmas with the Kranks?” If not, we don’t blame you. After a few short (and forgettable) appearances in some recent big budget Hollywood flops, you may have found yourself asking, “Where in tarnation has the man gone?”Actually, he’s been building a name for himself producing some of Canada’s best wines, thank you very much. It was only three years ago that Aykroyd first entered the wine business with his investing partner – Toronto-based Diamond Estates Wines & Spirits Ltd. Among his notable contributions to Ontarian wine were the Discovery Series-labeled Chardonnay and Cabernet Merlot, both of which have been topping LCBO sales in their respective categories. He also won the prestigious “Wine of the Year” award for his Vidal Icewine at this year’s Ontario Wine Awards. Not bad. Now Aykroyd has added two new bottles to the Discovery Series – a Sauvignon Blanc and a Cabernet Shiraz. The wines, which are retailing for $14.95 and $16.95 respectively, are available at LCBO stores now.
