Rafting Down The Amazon

Rafting Down The Amazon

Travel in style on the first ever luxury Amazon riverboat. By William Stodalka

You don’t go on vacations to make you feel bigger in relation to the world, quite the opposite. You go to be overwhelmed by something beautiful, and nowhere is this more feeling more present than in the Amazon River. This is the largest river in the world, with more biodiversity than anywhere else, something larger than anything most of us will ever experience. And you’d best do it through Aqua Expeditions, the first luxury Amazon cruiser.

You’ll start the trip by arriving in Liquitos, Peru, a bustling tourist city, and the largest city in the world that can’t be reached by road. Afterwards, you’ll be taken onto the M/V Aqua, a riverboat with 12 air-conditioned suites equipped with floor-to-ceiling windows, so you’ll get a great view of the Amazon. While you’re rafting down the river, there’ll be forays to seek out anacondas and piranhas, visits to local villages, and take walks through the rainforest.

Then, you’ll return to the boat to experience the first-rate Peruvian cuisine. Leave this month and you’ll be just in time to experience the low-water season, which allows visitors to explore parts of the jungle on foot that become flooded in the rainy season. The high-water months have their advantages, however, allowing you more waterways to travel through on skiff. Three day to seven day cruises start at $2,250.
