![The Spa at the InterContinental Toronto Centre, has us convinced that paradise exists in the most unlikely of places. By Leo Petaccia
In the heart of downtown Toronto’s business district lies an oasis (of sorts); a spa named aptly – “The Spa.” You’ll find it on the third floor of the tres chic InterContinental Toronto Centre hotel on Front Street.

Once inside, the outside life you once knew all but vanishes. The irony of this knocks you flat when you realize the only thing separating this paradise from that all drudgery below is some ornately shaped glass.

Launched just this past June, this 8,000 square foot retreat is open seven days a week, music to many a jet-setter’s ears. It’s no wonder that the place is a hot spot for business execs and celebrities, all pit-stopping for one-hour, three-hour or twenty-four shots of nirvana. While some of Toronto’s denizens are known to drop by for a quick lunch (or tea), others will stay the entire day for the kind of pampering worthy of royalty.

In due course, everyone who comes here ends up looking and feeling like five million dollars.

Paola Perin, the Spa’s congenial director, will see to this ardently.

As you exit the reception room you find yourself in a stunning atrium drenched in warm, natural sunlight. There’s a sparkling 48-foot saline pool, a Himalayan salt hot tub, a steam room, an outdoor terrace and some seriously tasty organic teas. There’s also a juice bar that offers guests an enticing array of fruit juices and smoothies as well as some interesting lunch options, like a grilled vegetable panini with black olive mayo.
