Watch: The “DoYaThing” Music Video
Andre 3000, James Murphy and the Gorillaz team up to make madness for Converse. By Sharp StaffIn this era, where alternative music and sponsorship rub together like pigs in a pen, leave it to a sneaker company to figure out how to rouse three of the most desultory artists in music to create a whacked-out banger. Converse, as part of their “3 Artists, 1 Song” series, have gathered Damon Albarn (of Blur and The Gorillaz), LCD Soundsystem front-man James Murphy and occasional Outkast partner Andre 3000 to create “DoYaThing,” a joyous experiment in collaboration. The musical styles of the trio may not sound like a perfect fit when listened to separately but when you put three geniuses in a room you’re rarely given a disappointment. You can hear all their influences on “DoYaThing” and the track has even inspired its own Gorillaz-style music video, complete with three dimensionally animated versions of Murphy and Andre. When asked about the project, Albarn said “If we’d have had two weeks, we could have made a whole record.” But alas, for that to happen we’d probably have to get Sprite involved.
