Its light, yet incredibly warm, and once touched, it’s hard to go back to its harsher, scratchier wooly cousin.</p> <p>Mills in Scotland and Italy have been spinning the finest, longest, whitest Mongolian hairs into covetable scarves and sweaters for centuries. And since it’s possible to make practically anything with a “Made in China” stamp on it today, fast fashion retailers have decided to toss their hat in the cashmere game too. (Let there be cashmere for all!)</p> <p>That’s great and all, but it’s really not a steal unless you’re getting a deal on the good stuff. The mass-produced kind can be made from shorter, thicker hairs, which means more pilling, faster. There’s nothing wrong with wanting to feel that glorious touch against your skin for a fraction of the price but, you know, caveat emptor.</p> <p>And despite cashmere’s ubiquity (it’s being used to market toilet paper as we speak) it has all but lost its luster. Purists can rest assured there are great men out there safeguarding its old world luxury, and modernists will be happy to know designers are weaving cashmere into more than cardigans.</p> <div></div> <div id='nr_fo_bot_of_post'></div> <span id="pty_trigger"></span>$
