The Best and Worst of London Fashion Week

<b>Designer:</b> Hackett

<b>The Gist:</b> Pairing an assortment of different fabrics, colours and patterns together, Hackett demonstrated its ability to perfect the winter layering ensemble with its runway show this week. Need to get away for the weekend? This is how you should look while doing it.

<b>Designer:</b> Hackett

<b>The Gist:</b> A quality example of British tailoring at its best. Showing no signs of slowing down, the double-breasted jacket is a must-have item that any distinguished man should have in his sartorial arsenal. Try a nice windowpane check for a guaranteed fall look.

<b>The Gist:</b> Topman Design goes for a white-out look that challenges any notion of post-Labour Day conventions. Skip the billowing pants and go for a hardy pair of wool trousers instead.

<b>The Gist:</b> Turtlenecks are back with a vengeance, and we don’t mind one bit. After you hit the slopes, cozy up with your girl in a sweater that will keep you nice and toasty warm. A pop of colour never hurts, but thumbholes do. Save your dignity and avoid using them.

<b>Designer:</b> Hardy Amies

<b>The Gist:</b> Hardy Amies gives us a great collection overall. With an ode to classic British style, Amies goes with a checked three-piece suit, complete with slim tie and lapel accent. Shades of grey are big this season, coincidence?

<b>The Gist:</b> Never underestimate the classics. Amies’ rustic bomber offers a nice rugged edge that says you’re all ready for the open road. If you’re not feeling the pants, a sturdy pair of jeans will do just fine.

<b>The Gist:</b> The three-piece suit is a beauty, but what’s really getting us going are the boots paired with it. A little attitude goes a long way.

<b>The Gist:</b> Oliver Spencer gives us some major seafaring vibes with this double-breasted, shawl-collared coat in a durable wool. The red stripe is a nice touch.

<b>The Gist:</b> Proof that a man can wear a leather jacket on top of anything (including your office attire) and look good comes in the form of this runway look. The jacket’s cut and colour make it a perfect addition to a trouser, shirt and tie combination.

<b>The Gist:</b> Overcoats are a professional man’s best friend, and Richard James gives us a phenomenal double-breasted one, perfect for the colder seasons. Switch out your favourite crewneck and opt for a grey turtleneck for a more distinguished, dapper look.

<b>The Gist:</b> This year we saw the popularity of Hunter Green, and Richard James is making sure it isn’t going anywhere. The bomber is a great fit and different than conventional bombers due to its colour; a great day-to-evening look.

<b>The Gist:</b> A tux in a brilliant dark blue with a subtle sheen is classy enough to pay tribute to traditional black tuxes, but vivid enough to set you apart from the crowd. The shawl collar is also a great change from traditionally peaked or notched lapels. It’s the perfect evening ensemble.

<b>The Gist:</b> If you remember one thing from the London Collections, remember this: trends come and go, but classics are always in. Refined tailoring goes a long away, and this look gives us just that.

<b>The Gist:</b>: Self-explanatory.

<b>Designer:</b> Astrid Andersen for MAN

<b>The Gist:</b>: In our research, it looks as though gold lipstick for men has not been popular since the time of Tutankhamen, but Astrid Andersen is trying out the look again. While we appreciate the sportswear aesthetic, this overload of saggy velour just isn’t working.

<b>Designer:</b> Aitor Throup

<b>The Gist:</b> Steel mesh horses are apparently the next big thing in menswear accessories.

<b>Designer:</b> Qasimi Homme

<b>The Gist:</b> Here at Sharp we emphasize the importance of <a href="http://sharpformen.com/style/men-of-a-certain-age/">proper grooming</a>. Done properly, it can turn the everyday man into a bona fide gentleman. As is the case here, we see how improper grooming can do the exact opposite. Get that hair out of your face, sir.

<b>Designer:</b> Christopher Shannon

<b>The Gist:</b> Tearaways are so far gone that they are not even worth making jokes about anymore. But, wait, what’s that? Christoper Shannon is giving us tearaway sleeves? We’d say take a pass on this number, unless your shoulders are excessively prone to perspiration.

<b>Designer:</b> Martine Rose
<br></br>
<b>The Gist:</b> Where to begin? We should preface by saying that we are great fans of denim and leather, but not like this. Here we’ve got denim-on-denim-on-drop-crotched-leather-on-combat-boots. Try saying that five times fast.

<b>Designer:</b> Fashion East
<br></br>
<b>The Gist:</b>: As much as we can appreciate the avant-garde, sometimes we have to question its legitimacy. If megatron were made of backpacks instead of metal, this would be his face. If it’s laughter you’re after, Fashion East absolutely nailed it.

<b>Designer:</b> Sibling
<br></br>
<b>The Gist:</b> This look is fresh out of grandma’s freaky closet, where she’s focused on making oversized knit garments in toddler-friendly colours. The knitwear is far too dramatic for our taste, and is paired with the worst “trend“ of 2012: Meggings. Back to the drawing board!

<b>Designer:</b> Sibling
<br></br>
<b>The Gist:</b> Oversized proportions are taken to an entirely new level here in another confectionary look from Sibling. Save your dignity (and your eyes), gentlemen.

<b>Designer:</b> Vivienne Westwood
<br></br>
<b>The Gist:</b> An iconic designer in her own right, Westwood is no stranger to the impeccable tailoring that has become a trademark of British fashion. Yet even the great ones can fall every so often, and this is a perfect example. What do we call this? Houndstooth Athleticism? Urban Pirate chic? We’ll get back to you.

<b>Designer:</b> J. W. Anderson
<br></br>
<b>The Gist:</b> Cue the jaw drop. The tube top, the peplum-inspired short-shorts and the boots are all just bad. Imagine walking anywhere like this. We can’t, either.

<b>Designer:</b> J. W. Anderson

<b>The Gist:</b> Leather does not always equate with better.

<b>Designer:</b> Katie Eary
<br></br>
<b>The Gist:</b> Future fashion meets rococo florals in this interesting look by Katie Eary. The look resembles something straight out of a bad 70’s sci-fi.

<b>Designer:</b> Xander Zhou
<br></br>
<b>The Gist:</b> A glorified Snuggie on the go? We’ll pass.
