The Best (and Worst) of New York Fashion Week

<b>Who:</b> Michael Bastian

<b>The Gist:</b> Experiment with mixing prints and then hide it all under a linen suit to tone down your look. It'll provide a nice pop of pattern and keep you cool in the summer months. And do we see wingtip slippers? An added bonus.

<b>The Gist:</b> Cargo pants get a much needed makeover with a slim leg, flattering any man who dons the utilitarian trouser. The look is upgraded further with a windowpane blazer in a bright colour, making for a great weekend outfit. Skip the sandals and go for a nice loafer instead.

<b>The Gist:</b> Though bright colours aren't for the faint of heart, a neutral, lightweight blazer can make even these citrus pants an approachable look. The white lace-ups are a nice, fresh change from your worn out black and brown kicks as well.

<b>The Gist:</b> A utility jacket pairs well with a chambray shirt and suede boots, ideal for any urban explorer. Look for colours that will work well with each other when putting your outfit together. Add a nice print or pattern for added effect.

<b>The Gist:</b> We're feeling the tone-on-tone look here. Pair colours that complement each other in similar tones. It provides a great, effortless look that doesn't scream "try hard" by any means. Skip the exposed zippers though.

<b>The Gist:</b> The early spring months aren't so forgiving in terms of weather. Layering a neutral anorak over your suit will protect you from the elements without making you sweat.

<b>The Gist:</b> If you need to get your nautical on, a striped sweater and color blocked blazer are perfect for a swanky yacht party or, you know, a small get-together on your boat at the cottage.

<b>The Gist:</b> You really can't go wrong with a classic suede bomber and white chinos for a weekend road trip. Steve McQueen knew it, we know it, now you do too.

<b>The Gist:</b> Coloured chinos with an otherwise neutral palette is a great choice for spring. Your layers may say you're cold, but the pants let everyone know you're ready for the summer festivities.

<b>The Gist:</b> Even if you're not out on the water, you can wear a classic fisherman sweater. A good chunky knit is an item that every man should have in his wardrobe. And pairing it with printed shorts will help to add dimension to your look.

<b>The Gist:</b> A safari jacket is an easy way to up your layering game without using an overly threatening piece. And picking one in a colour other than khaki won't make you look like you're headed to the Serengeti, either. Avoid stuffing those pockets for a lean, proportional look.

<b>The Gist:</b> Every man needs a Don Draper power suit, if only to silently woo women. The double breast and peak lapels will make your chest look broad and extra manly, while the pinstripes will help to elongate your body.

<b>The Gist:</b> Well, if there were ever a way to show you how <i>not</i> to do a Canadian tuxedo, this would be it. Denim shirt, flowing patchwork jeans, and espadrilles all make for a lesson in style that every man should avoid.

<b>The Gist:</b> We'd say let the outfit speak for itself, but we're not entirely sure it'd be a language the human race would be familiar with.

<b>The Gist:</b> Like Tommy Hilfiger, Duckie Brown serves up another lesson in how not to wear the denim-on-denim look. Save the leash for Fido.

<b>Who:</b> Antonio Azzuolo

<b>The Gist:</b> Unless you're starring in a martial arts film, we wouldn't recommend this look from Azzuolo's Spring/Summer 2013 collection. While the trainers and cut off sleeves might help you deflect a roundhouse kick, it's not something we'd recommend when you go out to walk your dog or run a couple errands.

<b>The Gist:</b> We don't care who you are, head-to-toe polka dots are never a smart sartorial choice. Ever.

<b>The Gist:</b> We're all for color blocking and experimenting with prints, but combining all your favourite trends into one look isn't going to work out. Resist temptation and go for one trend at a time.

<b>The Gist:</b> Christ's second coming is planned for Spring 2013, everyone. Prepare accordingly, but don't wear this.

<b>The Gist:</b> Unless you're going to a costume party as the Grim Reaper of style, we'd say save the flowing black maxi skirt for your lady friends.

<b>The Gist:</b> Want to look like a dove? Or an angelic pop star from an '80s boy band? We didn't think so. Attaching a train of bedsheets to your rear end isn't going to do you any favours. Neither are those skinny jeans.
