The Best Fashion Blogs in Canada

These five Canadian style blogs will keep you abreast of all things chic. By Sharp Staff

Scott Schumann, better known as The Sartorialist, helped usher in a new age of citizen fashion journalism with the trademark street style shots on his now-famous blog. And while he’s one of the better known style-savvy contributors to the blogosphere, he’s certainly not alone. Check in with these sites (in addition to the site you’re reading right now, of course) for updates on all things fashionable in Canada and across the globe.

Blog: Freemanbrand.com
City: Calgary
The gist: Calgary isn’t generally thought of as a fashion centre, but the creators of Free/Man are well on their way to putting it on the map. Inspired by quality clothes, old-world craftsmanship and classic gentlemanly style, this site is a prime resource for niche and up-and-coming labels and stores in Canada and beyond.
Look for: Interviews with fashion bloggers and designers, and the latest gear, from luggage to shoes to shirts.
We like: Their “Summer Kit” series—photo montages of clothes, bags and accessories—perfectly outlined everything the stylish urban man needs in his summer wardrobe.

Blog: 514blog.com
City: Montreal
The gist: While this blog has an eye for modish menswear in French Canada’s most fashionable city, it’s also frequently updated with new music and art from Montreal and elsewhere, making it a destination for the latest trends in art and fashion.
Look for: Great tips on new bands, fashion with a European flair.
We like: Their comprehensive review of the Balenciaga Menswear Spring 2011 show, complete with a photo wall of their tailored, futuristic runway looks.

Blog: Stylequotient.ca
City: Vancouver
The gist: Forget Gore-Tex jackets and hiking boots, judging by the wide selection of flawlessly executed looks on this street style blog, it’s easy to get the impression that Vancouver is Canada’s best-dressed city. While the focus leans more towards women’s fashion, the men’s looks are worth scrolling for.
Look for: Strong photo-graphy, a growing “Details” section with some great style tips.
We like: “The List”, a top-notch blogroll spotlighting the best street style resources from Santiago to Tokyo.

Blog: Blogto.com/fashion_style
City: Toronto
The gist: While best known for their citizen journalism and coverage of breaking news in the city, BlogTO’s eclectic approach to fashion reporting is worth a look. From street style to store openings to fashion week shows and parties, BlogTO shows Toronto’s fashion scene from many sides.
Look for: Street style photos from a wide array of local scenes.
We like: The comments—ranging from hilarious to feisty. BlogTO’s readers are nothing if not opinionated.

Blog: Jakandjil.com/blog
City: New York
The gist: Sure, he’s not based in Canada anymore, but we still claim Tommy Ton as our own. From his beginnings in Toronto, Ton has since joined the ranks of the world’s top fashion bloggers, and now can be found from the streets of New York to the catwalks of Paris and Milan.
Look for: Ton’s street-style photography. His eye for detail, whether it’s catching paint artfully splattered on a shoe or the fraying on a pair of jeans, explains why his shots are becoming so highly sought after.
We like: Candid shots from Paris fashion week and Pitti Uomo.

    nice blog….

Fashion design is an art, as well as a good profession. The trends of today’s fashion is upgrading day by day……Also career growth is incredible….

I happened to work with Kishore Mamillapalli in Delhi. Currently based in New Delhi, he actually belongs from Indore. I worked with him in the domain of fashion designing. Kishore had a great eye for details, and his combination of western and Indian styles and his way of blending them was pretty unique. The 3 years that I worked with him were the most valuable lessons that I learnt. Today though I am a renowned fashion designer I still remember my days of working with Kishore Mamillapalli.
