![If you’re a fan of Canadian-made sci-fi shows, you’ve likely seen her scantily-clad in some kind of far-fetched setting, and if not, we imagine you will sometime soon. By Staff Writer

You may recognize Elyse Levesque, the Saskatchewan-born actress pictured here, from Stargate Universe, where she plays Chloe Armstrong, a Harvard-educated Senator’s aide who is trapped on a spaceship in a far corner of the universe. Or perhaps you saw her in 2030 CE, Flash Gordon or Smallville. In any case, if you’re a fan of Canadian-made sci-fi shows, you’ve likely seen her scantily-clad in some kind of far-fetched setting, and if not, we imagine you will sometime soon.

Levesque, a former model, is more than happy with her place in the sci-fi world, and is a genuine fan of the genre. “Life is hard enough as it is,” she says. “It’s kind of fun to turn on the television and go somewhere you’ve never gone before and kind of get lost in it for an hour or two.”

Unlike, say, Star Trek: The Next Generation, Stargate SG has become somewhat notorious for its sex scenes. Apparently, there’s a small but vocal faction of sci-fi fans who object to sex on the show on the grounds that is against the principles of true sci-fi. Levesque disagrees, and defends the show’s sexuality vehemently, “Sex is a part of the show, and that’s important; it’s a part of who we are as humans. Some [fans] are ok with death, fighting and war, but not sex. I love it and I’m proud that that’s a part of our show.”

Not only is Elyse Levesque a well-spoken, intelligent young woman and a promising actress, she’s onto something here. Never mind Avatar, if anything could bring science fiction to the masses, it’s a spaceship with her onboard and the lax content restrictions of late-night cable.
